An urgent alert has been issued for 235 million Americans as a potentially life-threatening polar vortex is expected to bring temperatures plummeting to -50°F. The severe cold is anticipated to arrive on Monday and persist until Wednesday, affecting areas from the Gulf Coast to New England, as well as the Great Lakes and the Midwest.

In Washington, DC, the extreme cold has already necessitated the relocation of President Donald Trump's inauguration indoors. Meteorologists have cautioned that these frigid temperatures will place additional strain on heating systems and power grids, lead to school closures, and significantly increase the risk of frostbite, hypothermia, and adverse effects on the immune system.

Simultaneously, a rare winter storm is forecasted to impact the southern United States, bringing snow and ice. Winter Storm Enzo is projected to affect states along the Gulf Coast, including southern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and the Florida panhandle, as reported by the National Weather Service (NWS).
