Everyman suffers box office slump as Joker sequel disappoints after Hollywood strike disruption:

Everyman Media Group experienced a significant decline in its shares on Friday, as the cinema chain reported disappointing sales linked to the underperformance of the new Joker film. The London-based company indicated that its fourth-quarter results fell short of expectations, largely due to the lackluster reception of the psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux.

Featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, this highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 film was met with critical disapproval and proved to be a financial failure, with global ticket sales barely surpassing its production budget.

In the UK, the film managed to generate only £10 million in its first month post-release, in stark contrast to its predecessor, which amassed £58.3 million over its entire theatrical run. Subsequently, Everyman faced challenges as a result of a crowded release schedule, with five major films debuting within five weeks, leading to intense competition among titles.

The disappointing performance of Joker: Folie à Deux, which was criticized and failed to recoup its costs, contributed to this situation. Notable films released in November and December included the musical adaptation Wicked, the animated feature The Wild Robot, and sequels Moana 2 and Gladiator II.

Everyman reported that customer spending decreased on average during this period, attributed to the higher number of family-oriented films released. Despite these challenges, the company still achieved a 17.9 percent increase in turnover, reaching £107.2 million for the 53 weeks ending January 2.
