Days Of Our Lives actor Francisco San Martin's cause of death has been officially confirmed following his unexpected passing at the age of 39. The actor, recognized for his portrayal of Dario Hernandez on the soap opera, was discovered by authorities at his residence in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 16.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has confirmed to Deadline that Martin died by suicide through hanging. Francisco made his debut on Days of Our Lives in 2011, initially playing a petty thief, but it was later revealed that he came to Salem to investigate a cold case.

His character eventually relocated to Argentina for work, and the role was taken over by Jordi Villasuso from 2016 to 2017. In addition to his work on Days of Our Lives, Francisco appeared on The Bold and The Beautiful as groundskeeper Mateo in 2017 and had a recurring role as estate manager Fabian Regalo del Cielo on the popular series Jane the Virgin that same year.

He also had a minor role in the Steven Soderbergh film Behind the Candelabra, featuring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. According to Forbes, Francisco's former co-star from Days of Our Lives, Camila Banus, who played his sister Gabi, paid tribute to him on Instagram, stating: "Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you I wish I had told you more."

Many others took to social media to express their condolences, with one person commenting: "Very, very sad. I am a bit in shock, as I saw Francisco at my gym most every day." Additional tributes included: "RIP sweetheart. Gone too soon" and "Let God give strength to his family. Francisco San Martin RIP." Francisco was born in Mallorca, Spain, and grew up in Montana, where he began his acting journey in children's theatre while living in the United States.
